We of The Ruckus love, love, love new plays, and the playwrights that make them. When a person makes something new, and shares it with us, we want to give them something back. A new play is a living, breathing thing, and the more that’s put into it, the greater it becomes. I mean, it takes a village, right, guys?
That’s where you come in.
When a playwright, or a group of people developing new work, submit to The Ruckus, they’re asked if they want to be paired with a member of the Dramaturg Army. If they say yes, we match them up with someone who loves new plays as much as we do, and wants to use their knowledge and experience to help the playwright develop the work. This could take the form of research, schedule creation, feedback, or even the organization of informal readings. That dramaturg becomes the playwright’s third eye, boon companion, and advocate for that play. The playwright wins, the dramaturg wins, and the play really, really wins. When the play wins, theater wins, and when theater wins, everyone wins!
